The Mysterious Underground Men · review
The Mysterious Underground Men earns a spirited score, following boy‑scientist John, his hyper‑intelligent rabbit companion Mimio, and the ever‑reliable Uncle Bill as they plunge into the Earth aboard John’s newly invented rocket train and discover a hidden civilization ruled by a queen plotting to conquer the surface. The character designs are pure comic delight — John’s bright determination, Mimio’s expressive, almost cartoon‑actor range, and the underground people’s soft, rounded, slightly eerie charm make every page feel alive. But for all that visual magic, the storytelling can’t resist repeating itself, re‑explaining motivations and discoveries until the plot starts to feel like it’s pacing in circles. Still, the warmth, whimsy, and bold imagination of the cast make this subterranean adventure an easy, charming read even when the narrative keeps tapping you on the shoulder.
