Ao no Orchestra Season 2 · review
Blue Orchestra Review (8.5/10) Blue Orchestra is a drama and music anime centered on Aono Hajime, a violin prodigy who starts the story in middle school while going through a deep personal and identity crisis. I’ve seen some people compare it to Your Lie in April, and while I get the comparison, I think that expectation actually hurts the experience. This anime is doing something different and honestly, it offers more than what people expect. Hajime’s struggle with his family is the emotional core of the story. His father, Ryuuji Aono, a professional violinist, was involved in a scandal that led to media harassment, ultimately breaking theirfamily apart. Because of that, Hajime, who once loved music, stopped playing the violin completely. His trauma and internal conflict drive the narrative, and it feels very real. What I really appreciate is that the story doesn’t focus on Hajime alone. Along the way, we get to see the perspectives, struggles, and growth of other characters too. Each character has their own story, and even the supporting cast feels meaningful they’re not just there for background. They all have their own charm.
If I had to describe it, this anime feels like a mix of Kono Oto Tomare! and Blue Period. It’s about growth not just for the MC, but for everyone around him. The pacing is one of its strongest points. It’s not too fast, not too slow it just flows naturally. Every episode feels like it contributes something meaningful to the story. Another thing I liked is how the romance is handled. Unlike other music/drama anime, the romance here isn’t forced. In Season 1, it’s only lightly hinted at, and Season 2 develops it more naturally. The story prioritizes healing and character development first before diving deeper into relationships, which makes everything feel more genuine. The dynamics senior/junior, rivals, and love interests are also well done.
On a personal level, I found this anime very relatable. I understand Hajime’s situation I’ve been in a similar place before. Not exactly the same, but that feeling of being lost and not knowing what to do… it hits close to home. Even his relationship with his mother reminded me of my late mom, which made certain scenes more emotional for me. And of course, the music is amazing. The performances are powerful, and it made me appreciate classical music even more.
Overall, it’s been a really nice ride. I randomly found this anime while taking a break, and I’m honestly glad I did.
