Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling · review

8 /10

I saw the ratings and I’m really disappointed—the comments, too. Most people didn't even give the anime a fair chance. I’m currently reading the manga and, yes, it’s an isekai with overpowered dragons. Still, the story itself is worth it! I might view the anime differently because I know the source material, but many people rated it after only four episodes. The plot builds up gradually and keeps improving. If you don't stick with it, you're missing out. It’s not a 10/10, but that’s a high bar anyway. When you dive into modern isekai, you can't complain about the genre basics; you know what you’re gettinginto. While many series are rushed, this story clearly puts effort into its development.

That said, the anime adaptation itself isn't as good as the manga. It focuses on irrelevant plot points, likely included to pad the runtime. If they had stuck closer to the manga's pacing, the story would be much further along. While there might not have been enough material for a full 24-episode run, the slow 'slice-of-life' pace makes sense in context. Visually, the animation is admittedly mediocre due to heavy CGI and still images—though you can use 'camera-work' on still frames effectively to save budget.

In the end, I chose a 'Mixed Feelings' rating because I recognize the anime's flaws, but I still believe it's a great watch if you give it a chance. Regardless, I’m glad the story got an adaptation and I’m looking forward to the second season.
