Xi Xing Ji/Westbound/Journey to the West/西行纪 Review Story (8/10) Very Good XXJ expresses it's own twist on how the Legendary Journey to the West Tale occurred in it's story, the first thing that you most likely would say is "Oh here we go again another story about Sun Wu Kong and the Journey to the West.." but this isn't about the story to the Journey to the West though! This is a story that sure adapts what took place during that Journey but it's not the focus point as this story starts off with the famous Journey being a thing of the past. This is a storyabout a NEW and unforeseen second Journey to the West because circumstances that I wouldn't say in this review (I'm sure you can read the synopsis on this page if you truly want to know). The main character is to undergo a new Journey to the West to overcome obstacles and save his important friend, I think it's a unique take on a story that has been done so many times and the first that I know of try to tell a story about what happens after that Journey (yes I know there's Dragonball and technically that's a spin off story of Journey to the West with Goku being Wu Kong but then we all know how Akira eventually went into galactic lore with that story), but yeah I was that person ready to be disappointed by this one just because I thought I knew where this story would be going and what it would be about the "Journey to the West" but little did I know... Anyway It's very good start so far and I'll leave it at that!

Art (10/10) Masterpiece

Come on now people.. really.. If you've read FSJ then you should know when it comes to nice colored art style you are in for a treat. Nothing more can and should be said about something everyone already knows..

Characters (8/10) Very Good

The characters so far are very good and interesting enough, as far as the first volume's worth of content is concern and the main roster they we are following they all have gotten somewhat of a backstory to this point and I'm invested enough in the 3 of them to see how this Journey plays out in their favor and future companions.

Enjoyment (9/10) Great

So far I'm greatly enjoying Xi Xing Ji, it has a interesting setup with lore we already are knowledgeable about (or I would assume you know the story about the Journey to the West by now come on..). The main characters are interesting enough and have a lot of space for growth and characterization for future chapters and I can't wait for the rest to be translated so I can read it and find out for myself.

I've been trying to get this Manhua approved on this site for over a year now (thanks mods for being so cooperative...) anyway I'm glad it's finally up and more people can know about this series because I'm liking more and more every chapter and I hope it can live up to the hype that was the creator's previous work Feng Shen Ji.
