Day 6/30 of the Yurithon: I'm just beating the anime adaptation to the punch here and I had to see what all the fuss was about. Whoever all those stinky, unkempt weebs were who kept on glazing this yuri almost as much as "The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All" (we'll get there when we get there)... definitely had reason to; this manga is pretty good. In retrospect, I'll probably drop the previous scores down by a point, because this is pretty much a definitive eight-out-of-ten. Regardless, it's good to have a yuri not just rely on romance elements to captivate theaudience. The setting in of itself really makes you question almost everything. What happened to this country? Who are these guys fighting against? Why is a ten-year-old basically a war vet? Hell, why are all these underaged girls the first line of defence for this country? Can I find someone who looks exactly like the nurse IRL and propose to her? These are all questions which naturally come up due to the setting, and the relationship between Shiina and Mimi is innately intriguing. Reading what basically is a relationship between a centuries-old child soldier and a pseudo-pacifist has already sparked some interesting conversations, and I'm only at chapter fifteen. It's not just them who have taken my attention. The other couple of Seiran and Ari always provided some new insight into the war that's going on, and the magic conspiracy happening behind the scenes has me wanting more. The art is beautiful and I'm so glad that the early chapters aren't a total slog to get through. Every chapter has something which shifts the perception of the world and characters. I'm absolutely ready to pick this yuri back up again, but realistically, I might just take the easy way out and watch the anime adaptation. Sorry.
