Review of Devilman: Crybaby
I watched this just to see if it was as good as people said it was. And when they said it was explicit...they weren't kidding. The story's amazing though. The transitions are a bit off which can make everything seem kinda weird and maybe even...disjointed. Despite this, the story still progresses in a way that makes you more and more interested in what'll happen next. It's definitely not for people who're sensitive to gore and sexual content. If you're on the softer side, it'll pull at your heartstrings at times. As for the ending, well, it's not bad. I'm honestly not sure if I can sayit was anticlimactic. After all the tear-jerking moments, the ending just left me with a feeling of nothingness.
The characters are pretty good as well. I'm not really the type to complain about "crybaby" (pun intended) or "weak" protagonists...so I absolutely loved Akira. Both Miki's are great as well. Miki Makimura is your usual happy girl but I feel like she has depth. The other Miki (the one usually called Miko) got some character development. I was kinda shocked when the guys who're usually rapping eventually got a bigger role in the story. I don't see that as an issue though.
The sound is nice. But the opening could've been better... Usually, I look forward to watching the anime openings but this one just sounded pretty meh. The graphics were cool but that's about the only thing good about it. The same goes for the ending that they usually use (except there's no graphics and just credits). The ending song for episode 9 was nice though. It really added on to the moment. As for everything else, I love it. The rapping and techo/dubstep somehow works perfectly with everything else.
The art looks different from what you usually see in anime. It's usually good but it looks a bit weird at times. The different running style given to certain characters are unique...but, other times, it's just weird to look at.

Devilman Crybaby is a beautiful yet gory and sexually explicit anime that will (most likely) toy with your feelings. Overall, it gets a 9.
