Review of Hyouka
Animation was very strong, not a lot of flash, but when it was flashy it was pretty incredible. Great backgrounds, and character animations were clean and detailed. While the characters were not the deepest, they still had a fair amount of depth. Overall the characters were very likeable, but a tad annoying. The story was interesting in nature. Instead of some grand mystery the plot focuses on small seemingly inconsequential everyday mysteries. While novel, the explanations of events was at times contrived. The pacing was pretty good, although separating the quality of the pacing from how the mystery genre inherently requires the audience's attention isa bit difficult. The voice acting while not mind blowing is very well casted, and the voice actors put forward very good performances. The soundtrack is also very strong, but at times could have used a little diversity in the number of tracks. The eds/ops were good, not spectacular though. Overall the anime is very well polished, and even though it struggle a little in some areas it is a very enjoyable series. 7.95/10
