Review of A Place Further Than The Universe
Well.. it's always great to be young. Because the greatest opportunities and choices that change your life will be at the time of youth. I sound like an old man even though I'm in early adulthood. Well.. Life speeds up when you're an adult so there isn't much of a difference anyway. "A Place Further than the Universe" I didn't know what to think at first when I first read that title. And when I first looked at posters and illustrations, I immediately thought of K-On! because of the similar characteristics. Coincidentally enough, this had the slice of life genre too. An associate of minekept on urging me to watch this show and he also said that it's not K-On and then I said that the synopsis tells it all and this is what K-On would be if you change things a bit. He told me then that I should just shut up and watch the show because it's not really what I thought it was.
Sooner or later, I started watching the show. A few minutes in, I thought to myself, "Hah! I was right! This is how K-On would be if it was made by Madhouse." Well it seems that I was right, but progressing with the episodes, my friend was also right. This feels like K-On, but isn't predictable like K-On. That's the thought I used to conclude the argument. Well.. enough with the K-On!!... Jaysus Crust...
I was wondering how Madhouse made this show because Madhouse is known for Action, Super-powers and Supernatural stuff and I thought that this anime was secretly hiding some but turns out there wasn't any. But atleast I found a reference to prove that this was indeed made by Madhouse. Well not gonna say what it is because it might be a spoiler.
Regarding the story, I thought that is was somewhat a compilation of different plots that I have seen from hollywood movies and that made it intriguing for them to be put in anime. So yes.. it was kind of predictable but not in the way that it makes it cliche and cringy. I don't know or maybe it's just me that thinks that the plot was kind of too easy and smooth without any major conflicts. I then realized that this show isn't shounen anyway where there are super villains trying to take over the world and drag the episodes too long with conflicts. The slice of life genre that this anime has is also unique and very different from typical slice of life series. There isn't much drama in this show either but there are very touching scenes that made its moments glow. Although this anime was unique, I always had the feeling of deja vu throughout watching the series and I can't seem to exactly remember the forms of media that are analogous to it. I also felt nostalgia even though I honestly have never done anything that is similar to the plot.
The art is very unique even if it can be compared to Kyoto Animation's typical style but you can see the differences anyhow. The characters aren't also some re-skin characters from other series though I felt that I have seen them before too.
Yes.. watching the show felt very light for me without anything heavy to think about and it brings me inspiration sometimes. Having an easygoing story can be something to help you recover from experiencing suffering or after watching a drama anime. The anime is no cliffhanger and everything was resolved in the end. You will not bear much pain from the aftershock of finishing a series. All is good at the ending and things were as they used to be. However...
One thing that I felt from this show was the feeling of reality coming back to drag you from your respite. I felt the lingering emotion that remains after doing something for so long and finally quitting. That feeling. It was like life was giving a reminder that no matter how far you go, no matter how much you achieve, and no matter how much you learn, you will always go back to the ordinary life that you tried to leave behind. You can never run from the face of reality and you yourself know that too well.
Surely.. you have done great things for yourself. You have done so much to help others reach their goals as you reach yours. After dreams have been achieved and conflicts have been solved,
Now, what?
