Review of Parasyte: The Maxim
What do you get when you mix corpse party and tokyo ghoul? Parasyte. It's amazing how violently awesome this anime is. Despite being adapted from a manga way back in the 90's, they were able to reshape the setting into the modern world. Also, they were able to retain the same amount of gore found in the manga. The character designs were waaaay different in the anime. For example, in the manga, Kana was seen as a delinquent (and she smoked), but in the anime, she was cuter and a bit innocent. Dunno why they changed her personality, guess it's because she looked better like that orsomething.
Other than Kana, the other characters were accurate. Too accurate, in fact, that the MC looked the same as he looked in the manga. And the dialogues were the same! Well sure, there were differences here and there, but other than those, it was spot-on.
The thing about the art is that when you compare it to the manga... you get confused. You know that there's a difference, but you don't know what they are. It's just so friggin' accurate, dammit! It'll make you doubt your own eyes. You know there's something different about the character's face, but you don't know in which aspect because they took all of the characteristics into account. I swear, the only difference I could see is that it's colored and animated and more modern. Is something wrong with me?
Anyway, I enjoyed watching it. Lots of gore, lots of conflicts, lots of dilemma... It's pretty realistic, in my opinion. Overall, it's a good anime and I recommend it to whoever wants to see something realistically different.
