Review of BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.
I finished watching this show today and I have some thoughts. The show is fine. I'll probably watch season 2, and then promptly forget about it. Story: 5/10 The story was fine. I'll try not to get into spoiler territory, but it didn't really seem to go anywhere over the 12 episodes of season 1. Somehow it felt both rushed and empty at the same time, and I'm not really sure how. The main character becomes basically the strongest person in universe in, like, episode 2, and stays that way until the end of the season. It didn't feel like there were any stakes at all. Otherthan that, the story was enjoyable. While the majority of it lacked substance, it was light-hearted and fun to watch. This feels like the kind of story that you get stuck into when you're having a bad day and need cheering up.
Art: 7/10
I don't really have much to say about the art of this show. It's the kind of artstyle that you'd find in most fantasy anime, reminding me a lot of Sword Art Online. That doesn't make it bad though. It's nothing particularly notable, but it's a visually appealing show none-the-less.
Sound: 6/10
Similar to the story and artstyle, the sound and music of this show was fine. The sound design of the actual episodes worked well for the overall vibe, however the opening and ending themes were lacking.
Character: 4/10
Like everything else, the characters weren't exactly notable. My favourite was Sally, but that's mainly because she was the only character who had a lick of personality outside of their one assigned trait. She felt well-rounded, which is more than I can say about the rest of the cast. The show throws a lot of characters at you in a 12 episode span, doesn't have the time to flesh any of them out, and expects you to care about them, and I'm sorry to say that it didn't work.
Enjoyment: 6/10
This show was a good time-killer and made me smile, but that's about all I can say. I'll probably watch season 2 though.
Overall: 6/10
