Review of Redo of Healer
I feel like I need to write this review as an apologetic justification to the fact that I actually think the story is pretty good. Considering how cookie-cutter copy-paste the whole anime fantasy adventure genre is (same with the harem genre), with its isekai and non-isekai variants, a show just needs to avoid all the "casting without incantation" -clishés to stand out. But this show doesn't just avoid the most basic of clishés, but goes somewhere shockingly different... and dark. It's been a year since I have seen this show, and during that year on various occasions, I kept bringing up this story as an example onhow not to do unimaginative and bland stories. Most latest example is a conversation I had about "happy slavery" that appears in Harry Potter and in an insane amount of anime released recently. Where you can have slavery, but everybody involved is still happy about it. Redo of Healer doesn't do happy slavery. Slavery in this show be dark dayo. As it should be.
So in summary. This anime is what Kill Bill would have been if Kill Bill was an animated fantasy adventure, and the story was actually interesting. Definitely not for everyone, same way Kill Bill is not for everyone. This is a little bit disturbing. And if you can appreciate being a little bit disturbed, then I absolutely recommend this.
