Review of Darwin's Game
4 - You watched this because you had hope, but ultimately left in disappointment. Maybe the story had promise or the characters were likable, but something kept you along to watch it. I really do feel a bit disrespected about this anime. It's just flat out dumb. So why is it dumb? I can't just say dumb without explaining it. So instead, I'll explain what isn't dumb about it. The concept is not dumb. It's another anime in which a regular person gets stuck inside a game where it is do or die. Evil players like killing others. Main character doesn't like that. Been there, done that.Nothing wrong with that.
However, the conflict in this anime is just so overdone. The fights are just- exhausting. The main character has this power... which is pretty cool. But the way he is treated makes it seem like he has the best power of them all when in reality a bunch of the people he ended up encountering have better powers.
The fights just don't make sense, and are lazy. There so much fodder. There's so much Stars Wars storm trooper bullets. How are some of these people even alive? I won't say all the battles were bad. There was ONE good battle.
It's just- it's not something I really enjoyed. My suspense of disbelief was not there. The entire time I was thinking, "really?"
I'm fine with unrealistic anime, but when it just becomes disrespectful to the viewer then that's when I check out. The main character doesn't even have the best power in the game! How am I supposed to believe he is able to beat all these people when I don't believe in his power.
I can't even just sit back and enjoy the fights. That's the thing that hurts the anime. If I was able to sit back, and be like, "HEY, this is fun!" then this would be a 5 possibly. But I did not enjoy the fights, and I do think the fights are the biggest draw to this anime. Yet it didn't draw me in.
I cant see myself recommending this to anyone to watch. I'm not sure there is anything positive to this. I watched this through because I thought the story was a little interesting, and wanted to see the conclusion. It kept me along that far, but even the conclusion was disappointing. The sad part is that this looks like it may have a sequel, and all I have to say is:
Why?
