That was an interesting take on Dark Fantasy. It's most definitely disturbing at times for some viewers, and.. it's supposed to. We have a typical good-hearted naïve protagonist from a backwater village who dreams of been a hero only for all of that to be demolished by the drawback of his own power and the reality of ugly corrupted world that he actually lives in. Plot immediately shifts into depicting years of inhumane abuse that MC suffers through while been treated as a thing having to both suffer mentally by reliving painful memories of those he heals and the physical and sexual abuse that he goes throughday after day of his miserable life.
It breaks him and molds him into a different persona, a psychotic sadistic madman driven by revenge at some point. He is so corrupted at this point that even when presented with a choice to change anything in the world, he doesn't view that as an option for himself picking a twisted alternative.
While he executed his revenge on those who tortured him, compared to his own experience, those involved pay a significantly low price compared to him even if it includes both torture, rape and abuse in return. He is a monster and he is shown as such. The ideas of his warped revenge are quite creative and this is where credit should be given.
And yet despite the experience he lived through he still has some resemblance of his own self deep within, in those rare moments where he behaves differently, and is still capable of some form of compassion.
Season 1 doesn't give an answer about the ultimate goal of MC besides revenge and it's curious to see where it will go.
If we look beyond that, MC himself has a pretty clear set of rules that he follows where cruelty never occurs against innocent people even if he uses them as sacrificial pawns in many cases. It's rather clear that he has no interest in sacrificing himself for someone's sake anymore and is ego-centric.

I'd say it's one of the cases where you don't have to project on MC, or accept him, or even agree with him or his methods and it's fine. It's a story somewhat similar to that of Rufus from Mushoku Tensei, who is originally a decent good-hearted person been abused by society and molded into a depraved freak with a difference where Rufus gets a chance to start anew in a redemption arc, while MC keeps going into abyss.

Hentai parts are obviously censored Hentai, but frankly who cares and from my understanding there is version without them even though removing them is not akin to removing fan service as it is central to the plot and the character. Episode with Casca from Berserk and the outcome of that is still significantly more impactful despite less visual display of that episode. And there are so many shows with gore already that I see nothing out of ordinary at this point.

Should you watch it or not is up to you, but this show has potential and I like how it quite accurately portraits people with absolute power that can do whatever they want without consequences.
