La Seine no Hoshi · review
When I was searching for shows that came out during this year, this was the most appealing. The synopsis seemed interesting, featured a strong female main character, and Tomino did the storyboard, but I have been burned before... Umi no Triton comes to mind. This is extremely hard to find. I could only find a YouTube stream of the anime in German. Fine with me I thought. I can always practice my German. However, there is a good reason this is a tough find. This anime is simply a tough watch. Set in Paris, Nadine and her parents run a small flower shop in the city, andNadine befriends the rich Marquee whom gives her fencing lessons. Days before the French revolution, Nadine was just the simple flower shop girl dreaming big, and unlocking her special talent in fencing. Her love interest was trying to get a club together to start a revolution to overthrow Louis XVI, but like all anime, I guess he didn't have enough members ;)
This anime is slow, boring, and plain not interesting. The only thing appealing is the rare episode appearance of Der Schwarzen Tulpe (The Black Tulip) who is, in laments terms, The Mask of Zoro. Eventually Nadine has something terrible happen and she becomes Robin the boy wonder. It had potential but just never did anything of interest. The anime seems extremely episodic with the evil Sherriff of French Nottingham and his henchman defeated again.
When it comes to the art, music, voices, anything the show is sub-par or poor in every way. 6 episodes in and I am too tired from boredom. Unless you are bored and want to practice your German, you can pass on this anime.
