Review of Blood Blockade Battlefront

This is an anime that I had on my list for a long time and I don't remember what made me add it to the list in the first place. I watched the first episode and was really unimpressed with the crude art style and boring as hell MC. But, something in me played the next episode just to be sure that it sucked. (I think true anime enthusiasts follow the rule of watching 3 episodes to decide if a show is crap or not?) As the story progressed, I found myself more interested in the side characters, especially those able to do blood bending.Also, over time you see that having god's eyes means more than just being able to see things normal humans can't. It also means being able to take over other people's eye sight and make them see things that aren't there- essentially hypnotizing powers without the hypno.
It took some getting used to but by episode 6 or so you grow accustomed to the weird art style and even look forward to the next time our MC will use god's eyes. While it's not a show I'd typically watch, it has great moments and the story really carries it well. At one point, I even tear up over a mushroom-looking guy (you'll see).
My biggest question after finishing season 1: Why doesn't Leo use his eyes at all times? He seems to walk around with his eyes closed or squinted for the majority of the series. I can't see how that would be comfortable or beneficial for him.
