Review of To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts
I usted to like the anime. It had a very concise and coherent story. Both Cain and Hank have solid reasons, they have power. And the moral battle of what to do with the Incarnates was engaging... But... After the fifth episode, I got bored. Hank, along with "Coup de Grace," is in charge of hunting down the reincarnates, and it's great. Each episode features a new Incarnate with a new appearance and set of skills. Each Incarnate has a different motivation and past; we empathize with some, but not with others... But after that, meh. How many members could that team have had? They justkeep showing up more and more.
One problem with the plot is Cain's charisma. He's just a generic villain, and worse. In the end, we realize it all stemmed from spite.
We still don't know where that forbidden technology came from, and... I don't know. Knowing that the second season will have more of the same just makes it incredibly boring.

Plot Details:
The story isn't about the war, but about what came after it. With little information about the "technology" they used, the Incarnates experienced the consequences firsthand. Little by little, they lost their human appearance and became more like the monsters they had become... At one point, they lost their reasoning and had to be eliminated.
The former Heroes of the North were feared and hated. And we follow the story of Hank, the former squad leader. He pursues Cain, his former teammate who conspired with and killed Elaine, who is presumed dead/missing.
So there are two sides. Those led by Cain and those led by Hank.
"Cain killed Elaine and sent the Incarnates into the world. I don't know what to expect. At any moment they'll lose their sanity and attack the innocent. Before that... Before they turn into beasts... I will hunt them down as long as they're human. It's my last duty as captain of the Incarnate Squad." Skein
"The Incarnates will lose their souls one day, no matter what. That's what Elaine said. She said we must die. Why?! Why must we die?! Is it because we lost our humanity? You think so too, Hank?! Then think about everything you've seen so far. The humans we protected with our lives created us out of greed. They exploited our power as much as they could, and considering us uncontrollable, they threw us out on the streets. There isn't even a shred of it! As long as we live, our souls will change, but they will never be lost! On the path to achieving it!" Cain.
