Review of Land of the Lustrous
Anime made in 3D. That would be enough to make anyone give up on this. I have seen many dreadful attempts to use this technology on anime. They were merely stiff, lifeless, but only having a quick look at Houseki no Kuni makes you change your mind. Give it a chance and go look for a trailer. It's fantastic when something surprises you. The 3D matches the anime perfectly. I dare to say that, by far, 2D wouldn't be as good. The beauty of the grass in the first scene and the natural shine and brightness of the characters reinforce my previous statement.Whoever decided to use 3D, have my thanks.
The plot revolves around the fight for survival of a group of "Jem Girls", against what they call "people of the moon", having the protagonist in a pursuit to help a friend with her problem and meanwhile discovering a little more about the reason behind the conflict.
Phos, (nickname for Phosphophyllite - had to search that on google, rsrsrs), is a pretty interesting character. She has quite a unique personality. I'm sure that most people will love her at first sight. She's cute, cheerful, easygoing, curious. Even her bad characteristics are lovable. We see a little bit of the others, but not enough to make them that interesting.
On the bad side, I think the plot lets too many things unsolved, probably expecting a second season. Even saying that I don't regret at all the experience of watching it. The pros far surpass the cons of an incomplete story.
