"When you gain something, you also lose something." A Lull of the Sea - a period without waves or wind of the surface of the sea, to not move due to a lack of wind and waves. It's a interesting original idea and the studio that made it happen was PA Works. If you know them for their works, they have one of the best visual in my opinion. They did such films as "Your Name" and "Garden of Words" and "Maquia" and other works such as Iroduku. All these I thought were visually beautiful and stunning in their own rights. So when I saw thiswas made by PA works, I knew I was in for a treat.

This though it is a fantasy element to it, don't expect much of a fantasy plot. As I do have a issue with that they didn't explore too deeply into the whole idea of the sea people but focused more on the relationship of the characters and people. This is more of a coming of age story and learning to accept change and facing those changes. And learning what love is and with love, there's pain.

It present a lot of different ideas, such as the whole idea of racism. How the land people and people of the sea didn't get along. How different ideology or people from different culture clashes, but learning to work together they can accomplish so much more. Though I honestly don't want to go exploring into this whole topic.

Characters, hmm... I would just say I have like mix feeing for the main guy. I mean he does learn to mature as the story progresses, but at times he still annoys the heck out of me. But I don't mean I hate him or he's a bad character at all, because it's true we do act like that as human being too.

Probably my favorite love story out of all them is the story of the Sea god and his love for the woman. I guess it's just me but I love those type of stories. I won't have mind a whole episode just dedicated to that plot idea instead. But as for the other relationship, I honestly enjoyed every other relationship a little more then the main one. This is just me personally, because though I do love the main love story, it's more of just you know it will end up that way lol...

In all, if you enjoy romance, drama and somewhat fantasy, you will enjoy this. If you like coming of age, this is a pretty good one. I say fantasy lightly because it's more of a plot element then a necessity to making this better or worst. I mean you can just make this your typical school anime or slice of life without the whole fantasy and still have about the same feeling. Just the fantasy with the sea god added some more magic to it... which was nice but if you wanted real fantasy... it's not really gonna woah you...

Overall, worth a watch, it was fun to enjoy the character journey into adulthood as they learn to face their feelings. Learn to see how times change us and how love is like the sea... we can always try to add to it but we can never fill it. It is something we can't understand completely or truly ever contain, love is something overflowing...

Also for those who watched it... is it just me or did you guys thought of "Rider" from Fate when she said she hears the waves. I kept thinking of Rider if you're a fan of that lol... sorry this has nothing to do with the review... I'll stop here.
