Review of Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow
What can I say except it’s peak. Continuing from Season 1, we have Sung Jin-woo taking full advantage of his new power to extract shadows from living beings and turn them into his loyal servants. As expected, he continues to become even more overpowered, effortlessly defeating enemies and making everyone else look weak by comparison. This season, he’s also more open about his powers to the world, though, of course, he doesn’t reveal everything. The story itself is pretty straightforward, and yes, it has its fair share of issues. Side characters often feel like they’re just there to make Jin-woo’s aura look even more broken rather thanbeing developed on their own. But honestly, that’s completely fine. The show is called Solo Leveling, after all, who else would it focus on but him? Not every story needs to be overly complex to be entertaining. That said, there is a bit of complexity in the form of lingering questions related to the system within the world. As someone who has read the manhwa, I already know what’s going on, but I can definitely see how those unfamiliar with it might be left wondering why monsters freeze up when asked certain questions.
Now, let’s talk about the opening, absolute fire. Lisa never misses. The ending is good too, but it does leave me disliking it a bit with those cliffhangers, even though I already know what’s coming lol.
Overall, it’s a solid season. It’s a shame there wasn’t an announcement for Season 3 when it wrapped up, but fingers crossed we’ll hear something in the next year or so!
