Review of Chainsaw Man

I normally read manga but since my brother offered me to watch the anime with him I watched the anime instead this time around. So I can't really criticize how well the anime adapts the manga but I will talk about everything else I've watched in the anime. I didn't really like the Denji in the first half of the first season. After the first episode, his entire motivation becomes either groping boobs or having sex with Makina, the latter still being his motivation in the second half of the season but isn't brought up much as much as his motivations in the first half ofthe season was. The moment he spouted some dumbass shit about motivation of wanting to touch boobs being stronger is the moment I gave up on taking Denji as a protagonist seriously. Thankfully he becomes more tolerable not acting as sexually craved even if having sex with Makina is still the sole reason he plans to take on the Gun Devil.

Other than that, Chainsaw Man is fine. Nothing really stood out to me besides the designs of the devils and some interesting commentary such as Denji not feeling as much human emotions in key moments since becoming a devil hybrid. From what I've heard the manga tackles themes of grooming minors, which there are signs of regarding the relationship between Makina and Denji but aren't explicitly explored much this season, but I'd assume that will be covered more next season.

If it weren't for the Denji's perverted motivations in the first half of the season I'd give it a 6/10. Maybe I'll like the second season more whenever that comes out. It is possible I should give the manga a chance, but with me reading other manga right now and being interested in reading other manga in the future, I don't know if I will ever get the chance.
