Review of Horimiya
Horimiya simply put is a romance anime with hardly any impact and has a lot of questions that are left unanswered. Despite the clean and very good animation that clearly took a lot of effort to complete, Horimiya ironically feels unfinished and rushed. On that note, let's move on to the plot. Horimiya has a simple and rather cliché plot; depressed guy meets girl who changes his life within high school. We've seen this exact premise over a gazillion times and Horimiya fits right in. Only subtle difference is is that Horimiya's main male protagonist, Miyamura has a rebellious background involving piercings and tattoos, which forsome reason doesn't raise any skepticism among the other characters. His background is also barely touched at and it isn't explained why he decided to become this way, even though he is the only character whose background is explored in the show. Furthermore, our main female protagonist Hori is a tsundere that actually isn't stupid, so another rather subtle difference. This story focuses on the ironic interaction between these two characters and the romantic development which encompasses both. As they learn to accept each other for who they are, they realize that they don't need to change or conform but rather appreciate their individuality. With Miyamura's piercings and shit and Hori's ability to act well beyond her own age regarding household tasks, these two individuals learn what it means to be individual. Of course, 13 episodes simply isn't enough to explore this story and too many details were left out. It's truly a shame.
Art and sound were okay. Nothing much to say; weren't any groundbreakers.
The other characters aside from Miyamura and Hori aren't that much important and their lives are simply not explored enough in the anime.
Horimiya overalll was completely average and to acknowledge this fact, my review will also be completely average. Not much to say and Horimiya deserves to be forgotten. Disappointing.
