Even If I'm Not Fifteen · review
Spoiler warning
This review may discuss plot details.
Even If I'm Not Fifteen covers topics that will make you feel uncomfortable but the way the manga depicts it is what makes it quite enticing in my opinion. I don't want to go too in-depth since there are only 18 chapters and it would be better for you to experience it rather than for me to spoil it, so I'll provide a short overview of what I thought. The manga jumps through issues like bullying, pedophilia, adultery and such as if it were everyday problems without any filter. The strongest point of this manga is its art, it does superbly to capture the emotionsof each individual at their lows or to highlight the character's flaws and beauty, the background and environment are drawn ideal to the situation/moment at the pont of reading which brings out the story more. In the first few chapters, the story revolves around a father who is convincing himself to be a family man and a high school girl who is suffering from bullying and finding her worth. The common element shared by both of these characters is that they have distorted self-identities and end up in extreme situations due to a lack of knowledge/awareness about themselves. The people surrounding them are also no better, ignoring the situations around them and making assumptions without trying to find an objective answer and just fueling each others downfall. However, the story does decline quite rapidly towards the end which is quite sad as it had a strong foundation and the ending just doesn't feel as satisfactory or adequate. In the last chapter it talks bout the man's wife who felt like an irrelevant character in the beginning and then focuses on the female MC without any explanation of the male MC.
Overall, personally, on the basis of the story alone, I would give it a 4~5/10 but the art is what makes me give it a 6.5~7/10. I wish there were a few more chapters to provide a bit more of a conclusive ending
