The first two episodes were very promising, having watched them in succession. It's a good start. Having a morally gray protagonist is always a point of interest, especially if done well. However, the protagonist proves to be physically and mentally pathetic... he can't keep his "evil secret" down for very long, already revealing it to three people not even halfway in. His talent seeming meaningless only to be proved as "the most powerful of all" if used right is actually super cool in this context, but he's kind of failing to actually get anywhere. The pacing is the worst part, I think. Characters with interestingabilitiess (not gonna talk about the shota H*tler situation) being introduced, but not really explored character-wise before being killed off or given their own battles is super annoying. The series' major war starting in episode 3 when we've had no time to really understand the inital cast and then bringing in all the villains and others in the Forest or whatever from across the world just waters everything down. It's the sort of battle that happens in most shonens, where the characters are split up and paired with each other & an antagonist that best opposes them, the trope that exposes character flaws, hidden abilities, and true selves, but it's falling flat *so* quick. It's hard for the viewer to be attached to anyone besides the protagonist and his friend (probably potential love interest), unless it's design or reference related.
I'm willing to give the manga a try, in case this is an adaptation issue; paciing-related issues often are. But I really wouldn't recommend the anime unless it somehow saves itself in the next few episodes....
