This manga serves as a direct sequel to Madoka Magica and sets up the events leading to the movie Rebellion. And it does so very well! The wraiths are depicted as interesting and unique enemies and are clearly different from the witches. While a few questions about them and the story in general are left unanswered, we also get a lot of satisfying answers. Homura Akemi is the main character of this story and we get a lot of insight into her psyche as well. I also have good news for people who want to see more of the other girls, as we get tosee them working as a team and interacting with each other more.

The stunning art of Hanokage helps to set the mood and some panels are gorgeous enough that I could stare at them for minutes and I wouldn't get bored.

The pacing is a bit off in some places, and the explanations of what's happening are a bit more wonky than in the original story, but it all still makes sense and is a very enjoyable read. I can recommend it to anyone who wants more of the Madoka Magica franchise!
