An original animation set in early 20th-century Paris. Directed by Goro Taniguchi (ONE PIECE RED), with character designs by Katsuya Kondo (who has designed numerous characters for Studio Ghibli), and written by Reiko Yoshida (Violet Evergarden, K-ON!). This lineup alone might pique your interest. Review Summary: Two girls chasing their dreams in Paris... This seemingly ordinary story is portrayed in a very captivating way through many thoughtful details. These include the historical setting, the Parisian cityscape, the characters, the music, the careful depiction of ballet, and the girls' pursuit of what they love, along with their struggles. It was a wonderful story, more lovely than exciting. (+) The brilliance of thescript
“Chasing dreams” is a theme depicted in many anime, but the presence of two protagonists beautifully weaves together elements of encouragement, admiration, and struggle.

Having two main characters is a common technique (for example, Look Back in recent years), but the other unique characters, the historical setting, and above all, the atmosphere of Paris create a world where the characters move forward toward their goals.

There aren’t any particularly large action scenes, and the emotions are not overly intense. Stories like this can be difficult to balance emotionally. However, I think the film manages the viewer’s emotions well through its pacing and shifts in tempo. (Of course, some people might get bored.) I liked how my focus moved between the two characters over time.

(+) The beauty of ballet
Since ballet is featured, its depiction is naturally a point of interest, and I was satisfied.

(-) The weakness of the trailer
To be honest, the trailer doesn’t fully convey the film’s appeal. Several Japanese reviewers have pointed out that the promotion is weak. I also felt that the trailer mainly introduced the characters. More elements could have been included. However, the film’s charm lies in the lack of a strong hook, so I understand why it is difficult to promote.
Whether or not you should watch it should be considered based on the trailer and the film’s theme.

My thoughts after watching the movie:
The film’s focus on pursuing goals made me reflect on my own hobbies.
Also, it was an anime that evoked a sense of nostalgia. There was a certain nostalgic atmosphere to it. This reminded me of the World Masterpiece Theater series (around 1975–1990), which depicted life in Europe. It would also be interesting to compare it to Studio Ghibli works. I felt it was different in tone.

Director Taniguchi said in an interview that it is important to create original anime works, not just adaptations. I look forward to what he will do in the future.
