Spoiler warning
This review may discuss plot details.
This series is not conclusive. It will leave you with many unanswered questions. And a bad taste about health of relationships between characters. Even in description above readers are drawn in by "deeper cultivators' secrets", but we never get real answer to this. We never learn why Jin Guangyao was orchestrating all of this, and was he alone in this or not. Not to mention the plot hole with Lan's mother - she wasn't cultivating, was supposedly sick, and yet she was able to defeat and kill a seasoned sword master? Lan Xichen praising his father for his "deep love" when in reality it looks morelike orchestrating to capture a woman he found beautiful and force into marriage and then more.
Don't even get me started with Wangji and Wuxian.
Wuxian is portrayed as a brat. Now, some people may like it, but in here he doesn't make sense at all. His decisions and behaviours towards Wangji are erratic and downright cruel, cause he's doing it for his own entertainment with no feelings. While Wangji is just forceful and sneaky, he assumes a lot and acts on it without having confirmation if his assumptions are right. Wanjgi is basically a mirror of his absentee father in a way - reading attention from Wuxian as affection. AND THEN HE LEAVES HIS BROTHER ALONE AFTER THE TRAGEDY OF LOSING BOTH SWORN BROTHERS ALL OVER AGAIN. Like, come on Wangji, why are you so cruel to the only person that stood by you all this time?
So, series is not the best in romance department. Amazing at building the cultivation world. But never finished the main plot - why were the corruptions happening.
