As a dedicated Mori Kouji fan, I really wanted to like this story, but its really bad. One of the marks that make Mori Kouji's stories so great, especially works like Holyland, are the moral complexity of the characters. Mori's main characters are often relatable but ultimately troubled people, but D. Divers completely fails in this regard. The main character is a righteous dude who punishes one dimensional bad guys, tormenting them in their dreams. Ignoring the dystopian quality of diving into someone's dream and torturing them until they confess their crimes (which is insanely fucked up), the situation just isn'tinteresting. The main character is depicted as being the purely good dude punishing purely evil characters, resulting in a story that comes across as low quality wish fulfilment. If you have a saviour complex and want a story to fulfil your crappy fantasies, this might be the read for you. If you want to read a well written story with depth, D. Diver is sadly not for you.
