A well written generic rom-com. Although the story uses stereotypes, the dialogue is well thought out for the most part. There is no deep philosophical message or unique approach to the genre; it is simply a fulfilling story about the protagonist's character development from a loathsome pessimist to a genuinely good person. What I think makes this story so loved is the snarky conversations between Hachiman and Yukinon as well as their different approaches to resolving issues. The story also includes a good amount of drama created through vague dialogue concerning personal issues. To those who didn't like the book, please don't give an unfairreview because you think it's overrated. Don't let the overhype create a bias. It isn't fair to the author.
