Review of Suzume

For those that already know director Makoto Shinkai’s movies such as Your Name and Weathering with you, Suzume’s stunning visuals and emotional storytelling shouldn’t be such a surprise. The movie follows a young girl that stumbles upon a mysterious door in an abandoned building and when she opens it, accidentally unleashes magical forces strong enough to cause natural disasters all over Japan. As she embarks in a journey to close doors in the country and prevent chaos from spreading across the globe, she’s faced with her own past and the pain of loss, uncovering the deep connections between the physical and spiritual worlds. An adventureabout grief, longing and closure in every sense of the word.

Still unsure if I’ll forgive Shinkai for making me ship an underage girl with a talking chair though.
