Review of Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale
First of all, I must say that Ordinal Scale is absolutely a masterpiece. I was on the edge of my seat nearly the whole time. The story is extraordinarily well written. The harem elements that were present in the first two seasons are now non-existent, with the crux of the story being the love between Kirito and Asuna. Sword Art Online may have suffered a big blow to its reputation with the Fairy Dance Arc in season 1, but once again we are reminded of what SAO was meant to be... a story of love overcoming all. The art was breathtaking. As expected of anytheatrical production, the animation quality was significantly better than the TV series (not to say that the TV series' animation was anything short of amazing).
The sound... man can we talk about that soundtrack? The sound was just amazing. It gave me constant chills because of how well it mixed with the intense visuals and situations.
We actually see quite a bit of character development, especially in the relationship between Kirito and Asuna, with the very heart of this story revolving around it.
I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this movie, and wish I could watch it again but it seems I'll have to wait until it comes to Blu Ray.
