Review of Blood Blockade Battlefront

For a show that's this silly and dumb, I found myself enjoying it an extreme amount. By all means this shouldn't work. The pacing is off the walls in so many ways, characters feel irrational and aren't terribly interesting, and the story is frankly mediocre in a lot of aspects; but the more I watched the more I enjoyed this show and the sum of its parts all the more. From the stunning animation from studio Bones, being utterly spectacular as always when they decide to flex their animations muscles so hard you feel like they're going to explode right off their body, to theabsolutely fantastic soundtrack. Every song is extremely memorable and used incredibly to sell the emotional and plot heights . I found myself getting entranced in the world and the characters, the fights and the tension, and every little part of each episodes stories. Each individual part of this anime is thoroughly flawed and silly and don't work on their own, but when they're all tied together in this package it's almost hard but to not have fun with it. It is extremely directionless and the overall plot isn't frankly that interesting, and all of those flaws culminate in the finale which is more or less the breaking point of the show sadly.
Also, episode 6 of this show is genuinely phenomenal. It encapsulates much of what U think of this show, it's silly, fun, backed with a great soundtrack, and sort of heartbreaking. It's the kind of duality of this show, consistent potential to be show worthy of praise but is brought down so heavily by it's inability to build off it's potential and fails to tell a really meaningful story.
Does that mean I recommend Kekkai Sensen? No, not really. There are plenty of other shows that are far more worth your time and I can state pretty soundly that this show isn't worth your time if you're iffy about it or aren't too interested in committing your time into something that won't leave you with much. However if you have a mild interest in the show and were drawn in by bones magnificent animation this another footnote in their animography.
