Review of The Fruit of Grisaia

This show is an absolute disgusting mockery of mental illness and childhood trauma, put on display for apparently fetish reasons. This is pornography for the very worst of humanity. That's the only reason I can fathom anyone would like this. It certainly started off decent enough; fantastic art, compelling hook, and a bad ass main character. Went straight to shit once they started covering the backstories of the characters, all of whom show characteristics of trauma and mental illness, some very serious. Normally I don't mind the sexualization of characters in anime. I understand that these are shows for a completely separate culture than what I'maccustomed to, and I can generally ignore it since it doesn't always play a major part in the story. I just accept it and move on. This was something else entirely.

There are real humans experiencing some of the atrocities that these character's faced as children right now as well as in the past. Its very real and not something to be taken lightly. There's a concerted effort in most of the world in dealing with PTSD, along with SMI. For someone to look at this and think, "Oh I can write a story sexualizing the hardship real people are dealing with, add my own nonsensical solutions for their trauma, and generally be a fuckwit" is utterly mindblowing. It's like this story was written by a 14 year old who looked up a couple illnesses like dissociative identity disorder and nymphomania and thought "Wow, I wonder if I can twist this into some self-serving sexual fantasy", and did just that.

Even beyond these grievances, its still just a bad show in general. Bad storytelling, ridiculous plot problems with lazy writing, bad characters, bad dialogue, and the list goes on. I often wonder if shows like this are written as bottom-denominator garbage to cull any audience with even an ounce of thinking ability to keep the only ones interested leaving positive reviews.

Anyway, this is my first and potentially only review. I don't really use this site for its intended purpose, but this show was just too much. Also, I made it through the OVA and half of the second season until it decided to tackle sexual abuse of children, which I just couldn't handle. Thank you
