Uta no Prince Sama Revolutions · review
This anime is weird because I can't give any of the seasons higher than an 8-- and that's being generous-- but I'm still really enjoying it? It's like a guilty pleasure, you know? I know it's trashy, but I also love the music and the boys, so whatever. Let me live. Okay, I know this is a dumb thing to bring up, but the art got knocked down a damn peg this season because they decided to CGI the dance moves in STARISH's final performance? It looks like garbage. That being said, I still love the art in this anime. The colors are absolutely beautiful, andthe blending that's done on that characters' hair (I know, I'm weird) is really nice.
I feel like it's hard to top a good thing, so the music every season does kind of take a hit. This season's music wasn't the best, but the ending song was still a bop after listening to it 12 times.
This season focused a bit more on the senpai to fill the episodes that weren't about the other boys. I think that was sort of a mistake. I think I would've liked it more had the anime added more depth into the original characters' backgrounds outside of their careers rather than developing four relatively new characters.
One thing that I'm surprised about with this season is that it wasn't really a reverse harem in the same way that the first two seasons were. Obviously, that's still an element of it, but it isn't nearly as focused on Nanami and her (unrealistic) relationship with each individual guy. That was a good choice, I think, because it got me more invested in the STARISH group and their success rather than having to cringe every five seconds because of a ridiculous romance. However, those four new characters kind of took away from what could've been a really great season. The new characters were great and all, and them getting development kept them from being boring characters, but they shouldn't of been focused on so much.
This season also ended on a cliffhanger for some reason? As if this anime is giving people the same kind of anxiety that, like, Attack on Titan does. I did get a little bit angsty at the end of the season because, like I said, the anime was able to get me more invested in these guys' success. The cliffhanger was 100% unnecessary, but I guess it did its job because I'm looking forward to the next season.
Most of all, I hope to get more character relationship developments amongst the boys. That hasn't really happened outside of their careers yet, so I really hope to see something to do with these guys becoming closer friends. Who knows? My brain is fully melted, so I'm going to start the next season and melt it some more. Stay tuned for my demise.
