Review of SSSS.Gridman
It's a very solid monster of the the week mecha anime with a sprinkle of intrigue. If you get passed the first few episodes I think the plot really starts to become interesting. The show gives you little breadcrumbs to follow up on and hook you into the mystery of what in the hell is happening in the world. Why are there just random Kaiju standing around? Why has our main character lost his memory? While the mecha action isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea (relying heavily on cg models) I think it's solid enough in most episodes to please the majorityof the source material its pulling from (that series being ultraman.) I have never seen ultraman and it is referenced in the show quite often so maybe fans of the show will get more out it it. I think the visuals were solid for the most part but get a little bit wonky near the end and rely TOO MUCH on the cg. My main issue if the ending amounting to the age old trope of friendship power ups rather than a satisfying conclusion. Overall I had a really good time with the show and it surprised me even though I wasn't a fan of the pacing at near the end and the final conclusion. The negatives didn't outweigh the positives though so if you like mecha and are craving something a bit different give the show a shot!
The pros:
-Very solid english dub (This really suprised me!The entire cast is fantastic the entire run of the show.)
-Solid visuals (Cg is very obvious but I was a fan of quite a few of the battles/transformations.)
- Story (Solid story that leads to discovery through little clues rather than explaining the mystery of the world all at once.)
Cons:
-The Story (I feel ike the last few episodes including the ending are rushed. The fight in the last episode is all over the place and the culmination of the story results in YAY FRIENDSHIP!)
- The visuals (While is stated earlier that for the most part the visuals are solid....there is some definite cg jank near the end.)
