Review of The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
As a fan of action, mecha, sci-fi and dark fantasy animes, Saiki Kusuo no Sai Nan was an entirely new experience for me. On the whole, I'd say this is one of the best, if not the best Slice of Life/Comedy anime I've seen till date. In spite of having no strong plot line, it is both beautiful as well as exceptionally entertaining. The episodes are short and absolutely hilarious. Saiki, the protagonist is a 16-year-old schoolboy with psychic powers. One of the funniest parts is how he takes having superpowers to a whole new level. Be it teleportation, telepathy, turning invisible, superhuman strength nameit and he has can do it. There is practically nothing he can't do. The story mainly revolves around how he uses his powers to avoid attention while occasionally helping those in need. Although he repeatedly declares that he cares for no one but himself, as the story progresses you begin to realize that he actually cares way more than prefers to admit. As for the other characters, there is Nendou who is stupid to the point that his mind is empty and can't be read, the delusional Kaido, the ridiculously beautiful Teruhashi who spends most of her time making a good impression on others and many more.
Saiki and his friends are a rather odd bunch who are extremely lovable and at the same time downright hilarious.
Although the second season is rather repetitive, it is still entertaining as many new characters are introduced.
As the anime nears its end you can't help but feel touched as you realize that Saiki, as well as his friends, are actually great people.
Overall Saiki Kusuo no Sai Nan is an absolute masterpiece both in terms of uniqueness as well as character development. On a concluding note, I'd say that Saiki Kusuo no Sai Nan will make you laugh from the first episode to the very last. If you are a fan of Comedy animes I'd definitely suggest this as a must-watch.
