Review of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
I don't understand the love for this anime. It's a mashup of fantasy and slice of life that gives the main character, Frieren, the overpowered abilities of an isekai protagonist, then shifts to a shonen tournament arc to end the first season as it has seemingly run out of tropes from the other genres. I enjoyed the first few episodes as the show sets out to explore what meaning Frieren can find in life, but I progressively lost interest as it had little more to say than spend time with friends and find hobbies. I don't think it will ever expand beyond that answer. Perhaps theshow will eventually deal further with grief or finding meaning, but until it does so in a meaningful way, it's only a well done but replaceable isekai, shonen, fantasy, slice of life anime.
