Review of Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro
Senpaiii......Are you really looking at my show? Disgusting, Disgusting Senpaiiiiii. Now you're reading my reviews pffft..... rather than read the reviews why not w.a.t.c.h me........ senpai.... Jokes aside, (I deleted my old review, despite it getting popular, I figured it's better to make a clean fresh take once Nagatoro is finished) tldr: Good pacing and story telling, you can feel the genuine feelings of Nagatoro to Senpai, Amazing Adaptation, Solid Music and Characters, good show to watch. Go to the very lowest for my verdict Do note though, that this is coming from someone who has read the manga. And please if you are planning to watch thisshow, cut it some slack especially on the 1st episode, why? I'll explain in a little bit
Ahhh Nagatoro-san, I remember when this got announced, r/anime had a field day predicting how people would react to this show. After all what can you really expect from a show about teasing feautring a tanned girl made by an author who is known for fucked up hentai.
Now there's one thing I want to talk about, I've never been fond of Teasing anime, if you look at the top teasing anime they all have one thing in common, the teaser like the person who he/she teases. This teasing mechanic drives the plot forward. Obviously cracks show as time goes on.
Story - 8
Let's get one thing out of the way Nagatoro starts out bullying senpai, that's why I mentioned earlier to cut some slack on the 1st episode as that adapts the first chapters of the manga which are just straight up brutal. Nagatoro is unique in that we can actually see those feelings if we pay attention sure other teasing anime follow the same recipe but none do it as well as Nagatoro, We can easily notice Nagatoro and Senpai ( I hate that his name got spoiled) start to loosen up and get along with each other. From this we can see how their relationship develops forward.
Nagatoro is pretty wholesome, I hate to say it but yeah. Underneath all that teasing is genuine care.
Art - 10
Does it have the best animation - No
Why do I rate it 10? well the Adaptation is amazing, straight up, nobody expected the adaptation to be this good. The seizure inducing visuals of the opening, the details on Nagatoro's tan lines, The NOODLE ARMS. The art on this adaptation is amazing, it may not be the best looking/animated but the attention to detail is spot on.
Sound - 8
Opening - Catchy, Nice wordplay and of course Seizure inducing.
Va's - Knocked it out of the park, I never knew I needed to hear Shalltear bully Deku but I am all up for it. Nagatoro's va knocked it out of the park with her performance not to mention everyone else in the Va department also delivered.
Character - 7
7 is a good score, I won't rate it higher because it's tough to explain Nagatoro and the characters.
Nagatoro's Friends - are balanced, each has their own role, some are dumb, some are sidekicks to their relationship but all of them have one thing in common, they have bigger boobas than Nagatoro.
Senpai - He's a loner, artist, but once you learn his past you can understand why he acts like that
and Finally N a g a t o r o - She likes senpai, this isn't a spoiler because you should know damn well that a teasing anime goes like this one. She's protective of him and gets easily jealous so you know that's genuine feelings right there.
Enjoyment - 8
Good show to watch to relax, yes yes I know some people want her to step on them and others bitch about how Nagatoro is a bully. But It is amazing just how well this series is written. especially if you think about the author and the characters it has. Nobody expected this series to do as well as it did and to have a story that is lowkey wholesome.
Overall - 8
I will not recommend this show to any of my friends, why? This show is similar to Scum's wish, it's tough to recommend since it just starts out so goddamn terribly and fills a niche role. Uzaki-chan is the threshold for annoying teasing but Nagatoro goes above and beyond Uzaki's teasing. it's just a niche show and any sane person will think you are a masochist for watching a show that features a tanned loli bullying her poor senpai. Oh how I wish those people knew
Still like it though. Give it a shot and don't let the reviews dictate your opinion.
