Review of Parasyte: The Maxim
I didn't think much of this anime when I first looked at it. I thought that it would be a typical edgy seinen so I put it off for a long time. A while later, I gave in to the anime community that praised this anime and I gave it a shot. It was 100% worth my time. It really showcased the human psyche and how we perceive them, in which made me question my perspective of humanity. This has quickly become one of the greatest anime I have watched. Easily with the top 30, despite having watched hundreds of anime. The story, characters, art style,it all had done a part in making this such a fantastic anime. Through out the whole series, I've noticed how Izumi had change within the timespan of this series. From being a human, that would've done everything that's right for humanity and the world, to a man whose perspective is drastically changed. You could even see the development of Migi, who felt more "human" as the story went on.
But in all honesty, this wasn't a perfect masterpiece. imo Murano wasn't done well as a character. She seemed like a typical seinen MC love interest but that aside, she was very likable. I also didn't like how time passed by in the anime. In a second, a huge timeskip of a few months would take place and it didn't really feel like time passed. The manga did a good job with the timeskips though.
These are my statistics for it:
Plot: 8.5
Character: 7.5
Animation: 7
Soundtrack: 7
Enjoyment: 8
Overall: 9
I highly recommend this anime to any seinen/thriller/dark anime lovers!
