Review of Parasyte: The Maxim
A show that I had on my radar for a long time, finally getting myself to watch it and I'm happy to say that it delivered on the hype. A great concept for a story portrayd very well on screen. It is a little slow in the first half after the introductory episodes but the emotional beats clicked for me and I even cared for the romance, which is unusual for me. (Eventhough Murano was annoying i admit). The story itself is structured into parts focusing on different side character subplots taking 3-4 episodes each. I enjoyed most of these ventures (the detective one leadnowhere) but found the division too noticeable. Characters were used for plot purposes alone and then thrown away. Thinking about it now, there was no character development for anyone except for Izumi (and Migi). Also the dream sequences were kind of a waste of time (apart from the Kana-related ones they were hillarious).
The animation and action scenes were good and I also enjoyed the music and I might be a minority on this one since I found a lot of people complaining about it. It was minimalistic but it was used appropriately and to good effect.
The ending was action packed and satisfying. Appropriately concluding the story of Izumi along with the parasyte infestation without going into too much detail.
Overall a great watch, one that I might come back to in a couple of years.
