Review of Land of the Lustrous
This is my first review, and my mother language is not English, but I'll try my best so I can write something decent. Story: 9 The story talks about human-like, genderless gems, they don't die, and are easily fixed when broken. Our main character Phosphophyllite, or only Phos, has a typical main character personality, clumsy and cheerful, they don't fight, unlike other gems, because they are too weak, they only have 3.5 of hardness, which is way too easy to be broken. With this, they know they are useless, this is when their sensei gives them their first job, make a Encyclopedia. This is the start setof the anime that you can see in the first episode.
Art: 10
I'm usually really critical towards art, and this time I had to give it a 10, I'm not a fan of CGI anime, I think the tradicional, 2-D animation much more beautiful and eye-pleasent, but my vision have changed with Houseki no Kuni. The art is superb, and sometimes I'd even forget that it was CGI, characters were beautiful, and scenario too. I think that the big point of all this was because of the story, the CGI was good because the characters were gems, if not, maybe things wouldn't be so good.
Sound: 7
The opening music is good, makes you 'in the mood' to watch the anime, but nothing that amazing too. The music wasn't amazing, so it didn't have a big impact, unlike the animation, but I can't say it was bad too.
Character: 8
Just like I said before, our main character is nothing really different, or special, but they really impressed me in the development of the story, they were really predictable sometimes, but I can affirm that I've never seen such a character development and change too in only 12 episodes, it really 'wowed' me. Even though they are changed I would say that I like more the way they were in the first episodes (but this is a personal opinion, you don't have to agree with me)
Enjoyment: 9
I saw this anime while I was in a 15 hours road trip, I downloaded it randomly just because I didn't want to be bored, but even if I started to see it just to kill time, it was a really enjoyable anime, I would immediately press the 'next episode' button because I really wanted to know what would happen next, it made me mad sometimes, other times sad, and happy too, and I don't know you, but for me if an anime made me feel emotions (that is not disgust or boredom, of course), than it's a good anime.
Overall: 9
Some things could have been better obviously, but I think this one should be a 'must watch' for every anime fan, it's sad that it didn't have the merit that it deserves, you won't be disappointed in watching this.
Even though I know it's almost impossible, I really hope for a second season, I'd gladly watch it.
