The art is beautiful, that's undeniable. The premise of the story is interesting, and I think I'd like the story better if it doesn't employ that much drama. The story is clearly capable of writing just a simple story of two people getting closer to each other and I feel like the MC's psychological issue is enough tension to propel the story forward. But then the story has to add other dramas. And it's such a cheap move too. Of course ML used to be close to MC. Of course the bully in MC's past returns. Of course there's misunderstanding and miscommunication. At some point thedrama replaces the actual relationship development, and so's the resolution. It's a waste of all the buildup, imo, because their shared past doesn't really add much to either characters.
