Boku dake Shitteru Ichimiya-san · review
Well, to be honest I only read this managa, because it is 18 chapter, so kinda short, and one of the reviews here peaked my interest. I mean I was curious what someone can have possibly done that a redemption arc felt neccessary. Well, as it turns out, it is more or less an overreaction. This is not even remotely close to the worse cases where people got away with something horrible. Also it is a good life lesson for everybody. Life is not fair, often the "good" doesn't win the price, and the "evil" get it all, deal with it. Though in this caseI'm not even sure which character needs a redemtion arc? I mean a girl who has a narcisistic controlling brother? The narcistic brother who is broken mentally? The incest? The peeping tom? Who exactly? This story is full of messed up personalites, none of them are that much better than the others. So yeah, this is not a fairytale, this is a mudfight.
Now, some mumbling about the quality. Well, the story is okeyish with a few kinda unique spin. So you sit down you read trough, because it is not bad, and for some reason it catches your attention, but you doesn't really get anything out of it. It is just there. It doesn't make you think, doesn't make you sad, doesn't really make you happy, doesn't really do anything. Kinda empty. In addition, despite my rumbling in the first paragraph, the big finale was pretty poorly written. It was kinda pathetic, especially the panels after that. Like some twitsted disney movie.
The characters are interesting, but they are somewhat shallow. They are a bit like... You know what? Fuck this, let's get this straight. Score: 6. You know, not great, not terrible. If you have time to kill, it may worth a shot, but if you have classics waiting for you, read those instead.
