Review of Horimiya
This anime is getting a lot of hate for the predictable tropes that comes with romance anime, but I'm here to say SOMETIMES YOU JUST WANT THE TROPES. Even if they're tired, cliché, and been done to death, sometimes you just want a feel good, heart pounding, shoujo anime even if you KNOW what happens in the end. By day, Hori is smart, beautiful, and popular girl at school while Miyamura is a quiet loner. After school hours, their personalities take a drastic turn. Hori becomes a plain housewife and doting older sister to her little brother and Miyamura transforms into a tattooed grunge boy thatrocks multiple piercings.
As time goes on they become special to one another and go through the trials and tribulations of love. Yes, there are many tropes scattered throughout this anime (interrupted romantic moments, a misunderstanding that could be simply cleared up by talking, a rival suddenly appears) but they are still carried out in a way that'll make your face turn red and your heart skip a beat.
This anime is not a slow burn whatsoever. The pacing is quick and sometimes a little ridiculous, but they're teenagers in love, and teenagers do STUPID THINGS, it's kind of their thing.
If you're looking for a sugary sweet pure romance series (even if it's using a cookie cutter shoujo template), Horimiya is fun watch that'll leave you daydreaming for your own innocent romance (although I'm a single, cynical mid-twenties office lady I still want my own cute love story okay???)
