Review of Hunter x Hunter
After writing one of thee classics piece of work Yu Yu Hakusho, it's clear Yoshihiro Togashi wanted to try something new in the genre he wrote in. Many people argue that Hunter is the definitive shonen must watch even for people who usually wouldn't enjoy it. They are not wrong, although at first glance it might look like a typicall weekly plot filled shonen, the story develops into something much bigger than Togashi himself imagined. It's typical for shounen animes to not have a clear ending or even and end to begin with, the stories are usually made with the feeling that the main characteralways has nothing to loose; Hunter isn't different in that way but that is not why it is so successfull. The success dosn't come from being 'different' than shounen tropes, rather it comes from mastering the art of what makes shounen great. Togashi fills the world with interesting characters that build the world into something that evolves into a great scope. He dosn't put any limits in the world, the conflicts are relatable to our situations and even directly insipred by them. Most of the side characters have their own stories that is perfectly blended in the two main character's decisions which makes the reader never be left out of excitement for them (Gon and Killua).
Although i very much like the 1999 version of the anime, it can't be argued against the greatness of the 2011 version. The never faulting animation quality and amazing sound track just wins over me over this version.
