Review of Land of the Lustrous
Land of the Lustrous caught me completely by surprise. I'm very specific on the anime that I watch, and this one flew completely under my radar. After watching it, I can safely say this is easily in my top 10 anime of all time. The art is incredible, the story is constantly surprising and delivering on so many fronts. It doesn't feel like any second is wasted, and each of the 12 episodes is chalk full of fantastic scenes. The characters are the best part of the show, each of them are very colorful and feel like they live their own lives. But what makes thisanime stand out so much other than the amazing 3D animation is it's creativity. The story is constantly going off the rails, and the overall theme of the story (wanting change) brings all sorts of emotion into the mix. It's difficult to categorize the show at all, it's a great mix of drama and comedy that makes it so charming.
The only thing that could hold this back is that the story isn't complete, in fact, the ending is more of a cliffhanger, but it's still ultimately satisfying. The first episode might put you off because of how bizarre everything is, but you should absolutely watch this whether you're a fan of anime or not!
