This is my first review on MAL, but I had to write about this one. It took me a VERY long time to pick this back up and finish it - just for the sake of saying I have seen it. The storyline was initially captivating. You are pulled in with this concept of complete-or-die game which made me want to watch it at first. However, you get just under halfway to realise it was a sham to reveal it actually being a crap romance piece. I stopped watching around episode 9, and only just completed it. If you think that wasn't disappointing enough, therest of the story plummets into some weird Twilight love-triangle nonsense.

I must say though, romance is definitely not top of my list for favourite genres. I do enjoy thriller stuff - hence my huge disappointment for the sudden change in story. If that isn't enough of a downfall, the random timeskips are annoying. Kirito suddenly became this mega-player out the blue. Where's the progression? Honestly I commend anyone who got to the end of this and thought it was worth the watch. I feel like I have wasted crucial hours of perfect vision in my younger years witnessing a crap love story. The characters are kinda bland too. The worst part of it all is that they are just teenagers. Stuck in a game. Nothing in this anime seems to feel like a story after the first few episodes. I would not recommend watching unless you are tied to a chair with your eyes kept open. It's definitely an anime worth avoiding.
