Review of Tsukigakirei

Tsuki ga Kirei, in my opinion, is the best show regarding romance I've ever seen. The show is a very typical romance story set in middle school. The show has a very strong usage of sound and art to get across the message or feelings within a scene. The show has a great ability to show, and not tell. What the show excels at and does better than anyone else is how realistic the characters are. The show versus other romances doesn't only focus on the romance but also focuses on the life surrounding the characters and how it affects that romance. The two leads are incrediblyrealistic with the show being able to express how the characters feel through more than words. Both leads have their own lives beyond what they do within a romance. I don't think I've ever felt so strongly when watching a character feel a certain emotion, because the way the characters act is extremely real. I hate saying a show is relatable since that implies that a personal connection is required to enjoy it, but I truly think that a large majority of people who watch it will be able to connect to it based on how it so accurately represents a moment in life.

The show is also amazing regarding the progression of the romance. We get to see the growth of trust that results from miscommunication and hardship surrounding the couple. The characters seek refuge in each other but are also anxious about the other and worry about maintaining the relationship itself. I don't think I've ever seen a romance so developed. And to address some criticisms that the leads don't have great chemistry, I would argue otherwise, since both characters give the other a lot of strength.

At the end of the day, the concept of school love has been done before, but certainly not to this degree of detail. This show is a 10/10 until I see another romance that does it as well.
