Review of High School of the Dead

HOTD had the potential to make my top ten of anime with plot alone, but several characteristics of this particular anime caused it to fall down on the ratings for me. Story: (10) A zombie apocalypse occurs and several high school students and their school nurse are doing their best to survive the global pandemic. THIS IS AN AWESOME PLOT! My goodness I've been waiting for them to do a zombie apocalypse anime forever! On the other hand, this is a harem anime so there are of course multiple girls fighting over the same heroic guy who is just trying to keep everyone alive. I'm not muchfor harems myself, but you know what? There are freaking zombies so I watched it all the way through!

The opening and closing songs were catchy and addicting, so I didn't feel the need to fast forward through the opening.

Art: (6.5)
Granted some of you who have watched this may be going "WHAT! The art was amazing!" Yes, I do not doubt this for a second. The zombies were kick-ass! As were the guns, scenery, blood, guts, character expressions, etc. Only one thing got me off of the fan bus for the art and that was: the ever present, impossibly huge, exaggerated movements of the breasts! My goodness people I mean these things were... I rest my case. If you've seen HOTD you know what I'm talking about. Then again, maybe it's because I'm a girl and actually have a pair that I can be irritated by them. At ease men! Enjoy the exaggerations as I continue my review.

Character: (9)
The individual character development was decent. The connection between the main character and his complicated relationship with one of the females is explained, and they continue on blah blah blah. What I really liked was that each character really was different in personality. Sure it's a harem so the girls all like the same guy, but what's great is that: that is the only thing they have in common! One of the best characters is a total nerd that turns bad ass once the apocalypse starts and isn't the least bit hesitant on doing what needs to be done. Some might say that makes him kind of psycho, but he still gets along well with others and the group and is out for the protection of the people he is with.

Seriously if it weren't for the constant need for nudity and giant breasts then this would've made my top then. Other than that, this anime was pretty good and i do suggest it to my guy friends.
