Review of High School of the Dead

Non spoiler review. I started watching this to have some fun and cheer up after watching Danganronpa series which is quite dark. This series exceeded my expectations of the zombie genre. The story is interesting and touches some points regarding the break-up of society following a catastrophic event and shows the break-up of social norms and values following that event. The characters are quite interesting, there is a bit of development, but in the end it's just a collection of people becoming friends and trying to survive in a hostile world. The art is good, the action sequences are interesting but short. The negativepoints go to the ecchi stuff, there is plenty of it and some of it is done bad. There are panty shots in abundance however the most disturbing is the boobs emphasis, those are way blown out of proportion, it's like the people involved in creating this had some weird fetish.

I was afraid about the ending, I really thought it would be disappointing since the series was never continued into a second season and the manga was left in hiatus, however I found it very satisfying and very different from your Hollywood zombie movie or apocalypse movie in general. I think the last episode is the best though, quite sad on some aspects and quite rewarding and touching on psychological aspects very well.

In conclusion, it's a fun show to watch, can be easily viewed in 1-2 sittings. The stupid part is the over exaggerated boobs scenes , make sure you watch alone otherwise people that are not familiar with anime might think you are a freak.
