Shiki is an anime adopted from novel series writen by Fuyumi Ono . Now many people would say its a horror anime , but in my opinion , its a psycological gem . Yes it has horror here and there , but not enough. Now if someone watches Shiki , assuming it as a horror anime , they will surely be disappointed . But its one of the best psycological anime out there ( and also thought provoking one ) i would say . Story : Nooooo , the story is not about a handsome vampire sucking out blood from a cute girl in a friendlyand romantic way like most other vampire anime.
The story roams around the boundary , which differs men from monsters. Only to show us that a man can be a monster and vice versa .
The story takes place in a peaceful village called Sotoba . Everything was okey till a new family moved into the newly built Kanemasa mansion . Soon after that , a series of unexpected death starts occuring in the village, starting with the death of a 15 year old girl , Megumi Shimizu . As the death count increased , Toshio Ozaki ( the village doctor ) and his friend Seishin Muroi ( local priest ) deduced that an epidamic had occured , causing the chain of deaths . But it wasn't that simple . Later found out it was the work of Okiagari a.k.a. vampire , shiki . Another young boy named Yukki also learn about that . So , seperatly , Yukki and Ozaki starts planning to rise agaisnt shiki . But death sorrunds them too .
As the story progresses you can't help but wonder what is right and what is wrong . Even though you know perfectly well what is .

Character development : It was good , truly good . Not only the major character , but also the minor charecters had a great development . But , still , I would say there was room for a little improvement .

Art : The art style was perfectly matched for the kind of theme of this anime . Thats all i have to say .

Soundtrack : Very few anime have soundtracks as good as this one . Not only the opening and Ending songs, but most of the OST was more than good , thanks to the brilliant composition of Yasuharu Takanashi. The first opening song Kuchizuke is my absolute favourite . The soundtracks couldn't have been better .

Although I liked most of the things Shiki offered , there were few things I couldn't enjoy . Like the last few episode and how goresome they were . But excluding that ,the anime was more than perfect for me .

The voice acting of English dub version was nicely done . It wasn't bad at all . I haven't seen the sub version , so I wouldn't comment about that .

Lastly , I would say this anime is a must watch for every psychological anime lover . And also thanks for reading my awful review .
